course 1: introduction to the australian wool industry

Australia is famous for its $2.8 billion wool industry, which produces the world's finest quality clothing wool. The route wool travels to the consumer is unique and involves a myriad of transformations in the hands of professionals with specialist knowledge.

This course will provide participants with an understanding of the physical processes and financial transactions that occur as wool fibre is transformed into finished products such as suits, sweaters, furnishings and blankets. It will outline how each stage along the wool pipeline is interrelated with other stages and the constantly changing balance between supply and demand. This course will culminate with visits/tours to view shearing, broker's operations, testing, auction selling as well as manufacturing processes. These visits will be customised to meet participant's interests.
